We were able to finish our lambs in preschool Thursday and everyone had so much fun bleating like little lambs as I attempted to take their picture. Glad they all love to laugh & be silly!

In like a lion . . .
In March, we talked about weather and how it can be different all around the world, even on the same day. We read the book On the Same Day in March by Marilyn Singer. We have also talked a lot about how the weather this winter has not been typical. :) March has had quite a variety of weather, and we talked about typical weather and the proverb "In like a lion, out like a lamb." We ran out of time and only completed about half of our lambs, so we'll be completing them and practicing the following poem:
Poem by Lorie Hill
March roars in like a lion
So fierce, the wind so cold,
It seems to pierce.
The month rolls on
And spring draws near
And March goes out
Like a lamb so dear.
In like a lion . . .

~pepper prints~
On St. Patrick's Day, my students had a lot of fun making prints with a sliced bell pepper. It was pretty messy, so we had lots of green little fingers!

O is for Octopus
A couple of weeks ago, we learned about the letter O and my students absolutely loved making this octopus out of a toilet paper roll and, blue paper and "O" stickers. It took a lot of fine-motor skills to wind the tentacles with a pencil to make them "curly." I helped a lot, but some students did an amazing job on their own!

My little girl displaying her wand. |
We started with the penny and we made penny booklets. We'll save all of our coin wands at school and get them out when we play "Coin Clues" then they will come home for practice at home.

Snowman Arts & Crafts
I am very behind on updating this blog! Here are a couple of snowman craft projects that we made in January. We were sure hoping for some snow, but it wasn't to be, so we made our own snowmen indoors.
Last year we made puffy brown bears in preschool, but I learned a little bit about the "puffy paint" this time around - the more it is manipulated, the less stable it is. I didn't play with mine at all, and it puffed up more and was firm. The students who really enjoyed spreading the puff paint around ended up with more flaky "snow" or something in between. The basic recipe for this project is white Elmer's glue & shaving cream. I have added paint before, but we didn't need to for our snowmen.
This snowman was made of shapes to review those we have focused on so far this year.

{ms. carlie's sandwich shoppe}
This was definitely a favorite activity! My students would have played with this the whole duration of preschool if I had let them. My younger class focused on just making the sandwiches and asked each other what they wanted on their sandwich and learned to politely "pass the mustard" or whatever was desired. My older class used the order forms to mark down what they wanted on their sandwich and then checked the list as they made their "lunch." Later in the year I plan to have students write down orders using the picture/word cards below.
Please let me know if you want me to email you any of my "edit-able" documents. My labels are printed on Avery 5163. I would love if you have any fabulous ideas or links for other dramatic play centers. I am working on a flower shop next. Enjoy!
