Alphabet Letter N
We played a few fun games focusing on hearing the sound and recognizing the letter N.
In the News
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. Each student received a picture card that started with the letter sound /n/. We all took turns identifying the picture on our cards. If the card began with the /n/ sound, the student could tape it to the newspaper. If not, we set the card aside.This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. This activity reviewed the ending sound of /n/ using a fan as a prop. If Ms. Carlie named a word that ended with the /n/ sound, all the kids fanned themselves. If not, we set the card aside and held the fans in our laps.
Keeping Cool
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. This game was the favorite of the week. Chef Norman needed some help making soup and the students had to put the correct noodles in the correct pot {uppercase versus lowercase.}Handwriting Practice
We learned how to form a letter N and practiced writing it on our chart. We practiced on our handwriting sheet, as well.
We read an ABC book called I Like Me and we talked about a few of the qualities and feelings that we go through. In the next week or two we will be learning more about our emotions and positive ways to express them!
We also had a birthday party for the entire class the first week back to school after Christmas vacation. Two birthdays were right at the beginning of school, so we missed out on celebrating those and then my girls' birthday is in July. We had one girl who was able to celebrate her real birthday the weekend after our class party. We wore birthday hats, ate birthday cupcakes, had punch and sang Happy Birthday to everyone.

Sort #9a - Rhyming Picture Sorts {sand/hand, whale/pail, bear/chair, tow/bow, duck/truck, cub/tub}The literature that went along with this word sort and next week's, too, is called One Sun: A Book of Terse Verse. It is out of print, but my library had it. I will try to make my own version by taking pictures as they come up in our lives here at home. {Such as sand hand, wet pet, small ball, etc.}
