Getting to Know the letter
W Flashcards {This idea was taken from KizClub.com}

Wiggly Worms {Beginning Sound /w/}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Each student gets a worm (a cut rubber band.)  If the picture card begins like worm, then each student wiggles her worm and says, "Wiggle on you way little worm!" If the beginning sound is not a /w/, worms stay still. }

Wave Your Wand {Letter Recognition}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {If the letter card shown is W, students wave their "wands"  If it is not a W, wands are still.}

Watermelon Seeds {Letter Recognition}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Each student turns over a seed.  If it is labeled with a W, it is placed face-up on the watermelon slice.  If it is not a W, it is set aside.}

Pass the Wallet {Uppercase and Lowercase Letters}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Music is played and a wallet is passed around in a circle.  When the music stops, students freeze.  The student holding the wallet pulls out one letter card and determines if the letter is an uppercase or lowercase letter.  Create 2 piles as you go.  Continue until all the cards are gone.}

Ride the Wave {Letter Formation}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Each student gets an ocean (a blue page with the letter W.)  Each student also receives a card with a walrus.  Students pretend the walrus is riding the wave, thus practicing the formation of the letter W.}
