Some Preschool Tidbits from this week:

Holiday This Week: President's Day

President's Day Rebus
This printable was taken from ABC Teach.  {We practiced the vocabulary that we would encounter in the President's Day rebus, then we read it together.}

Color of the Month: Pink
Shape of the Month:  Heart

Learning Our Names

Name-O {We work on spelling our names in a variety of ways each week.}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Preschool Yearbook 2006-2007, Page 208 {Each student got a strip of paper with their own name on it and a handful of Cheerios.  Ms. Carlie called out letters that were drawn and we placed cereal on the correct letters.  Students ate the Cheerios when we were all done!}

Letter of the Week: U

Handwriting Practice: U

Getting to Know the letter U

U Flashcards from KizClub.com

Hold 'Em High {Letter Sound Association}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Each student held a U in her lap.  If Ms. Carlie read a word that began with the long /u/ sound, each student held the U high above her head.  Letters were kept in laps if the word does not fit the requirement.}

Under the Umbrella {Beginning Sound (short) /u/}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Circle Time from A to Z. {Each student held the Umbrella while the class recited the rhyme.  We emphasized the short /u/ sounds, then passed the umbrella to a neighbor when we were done.}

Dental Health

Wordstrips
These cards were taken from the ABC Teach.com. {We learned about dental vocabulary before we went on our field trip.}

Tooth Flashcards {More vocabulary/repetition}

Healthy & Unhealthy Foods {Uppercase & Lowercase Letters}
This idea was taken from the Education Center's Preschool Yearbook 2007-2008, Page 285. {I Googled different food on the Internet and printed them off.  Students placed the foods on the tooth they determined to be the correct one.  We talked about why on some that could go either way & why.}

Story Time: Going to the Dentist
We read books about the dentist to prepare for our visit.  All of my students had been before, so they each had a lot of background knowledge about a dental visit.

Field Trip to the Dentist:
We met at the dentist's office bright and early on a snowy morning this week.
My girls waiting to begin.

Miss A bravely tried to heavy jacket on.

Class Book: Super Smiles
We haven't made this book yet since we had an absent student and didn't get a picture of her smiley face.  Here is the printable I made if you would like it.

High Frequency Word: go

Words Their Way:

Sort 13: Font Sorts and Matching Capital and Lowercase Letters
We will continue to work on this as we didn't get through the entire alphabet the first week.
