I'm not a huge fan of Columbus, but he is a part of our history & he does have his own holiday. I liked the biography that I found at ABCTeach.Com and I taught my students the important details of his voyage to the Americas. And we focused on the earth being a round sphere and we talked about the difference between land and water and what it looks like on a map.
